CursilloCursillo de Cristianidad is a "short course in Christianity." Cursillo is an international movement in the Church for the purpose of helping its members understand their individual callings to be Christian leaders -- at work, in social life, and with family. The goal is to bring all to Christ. The Western North Carolina Cursillo holds a 3-day weekend twice yearly. The format consists of 15 talks by lay persons and clergy, which are, in some sense, a re-teaching of our catechism -- but with a lot of laughter and song thrown in. This program is sponsored by the diocese and is strongly supported by Good Shepherd. More than 60 members of our congregation have attended Cursillo here or elsewhere (or the Upper Room version of the same experience titled Walk to Emmaus). The weekend is followed up with support meetings ("Ultreya") for the parish and weekly small group meetings ("Reunion"). All new attendees must be sponsored by another "Cursillista" to help them through the process. Good Shepherd sponsored 12 people to WNC Cursillo #65 and 3 people to #66, as well as supplying people on the leadership teams. The dates for Cursillo #67 are March 19-22 (this is in conflict with the date given on the WNC website, which says May 7-10: we are trying to confirm the correct date!). #67 will be held at Christmount Christian Assembly in Black Mountain. Contact Harry or Rachel Baughn for more specifics on the next Ultreya or Cursillo.
